| Fort Supply Lake was named for Camp
Supply, established by General Alfred Sully in 1868. The name
was changed to Fort Supply in 1889. Freight trails between Fort
Dodge and Fort Sill and between Fort Reno and the Texas Panhandle met
here, and the famous Western Cattle Trail passed nearby.
The Fort Supply Public Hunting Area cover 5,550 acres around the lake and portions of Wolf Creek. The east side consists of sand dunes, sagebrush and pasturelands adjoining the creek bottom which is covered with cottonwood, elm and willow. Six hundred acres of land is planted to wildlife foods and there are hunting opportunities for quail, turkey, deer, rabbit and dove. Limited numbers of pheasant and waterfowl are also available. Anglers enjoy largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, walleye and several species of catfish. |
